CPAK-100G-LR4 Cisco CPAK 100GBASE-LR4 Module (WOTRDMZ)
Cisco CPAK-100G-LR4 100GBASE-LR4 Optical Module
High-Density 100GbE Long-Reach Connectivity for Core Networking
The Cisco CPAK-100G-LR4 is a high-performance 100 Gigabit Ethernet optical transceiver engineered for long-distance data transmission across modern data center and enterprise backbone networks. Developed by Cisco Systems, this module uses the compact CPAK form factor combined with advanced CMOS Photonics technology, delivering high bandwidth, improved reliability, and significantly lower power consumption compared to traditional CFP and CFP2 optical modules.
Designed for 100GBASE-LR4 connectivity, the CPAK-100G-LR4 operates over single-mode fiber (SMF) and supports transmission distances of up to 10 kilometers. The module uses four wavelength-division multiplexed optical lanes within the 1310 nm window (1295 nm, 1300 nm, 1304 nm, and 1309 nm), enabling efficient high-speed data transfer across long-reach fiber infrastructure.
The compact CPAK design allows network equipment to support higher port densities, making this transceiver ideal for high-capacity switching platforms such as the Cisco Nexus 9000 Series, NCS 4000, and CRS-X routing systems. Its low power consumption of less than 5.5 watts also helps reduce cooling requirements and operational costs in large-scale data centers.
For enhanced network visibility and monitoring, the module supports Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM), providing real-time metrics such as optical transmit power, receive power, temperature, supply voltage, and laser bias current. These diagnostics help network administrators proactively monitor optical link health and maintain reliable high-speed connectivity.
With its long-reach capability, compact form factor, and energy-efficient design, the Cisco CPAK-100G-LR4 provides a reliable solution for organizations deploying high-bandwidth 100GbE connectivity in enterprise networks, data center backbones, and service provider infrastructures.

FAQs:
Q1. Can this CPAK module plug into a QSFP28 slot?
No. CPAK is a proprietary Cisco form factor. It is physically different from QSFP28. However, Cisco offers adapter modules (like the CVR-QSFP28-CPAK) for certain hardware to bridge these interfaces.
Q2. What type of fiber connector does this module use?
The CPAK-100G-LR4 uses a dual SC/PC connector. This is different from the LC connectors commonly found on SFP+ or QSFP modules, so ensure you have the correct SC-to-LC or SC-to-SC patch cables.
Q3. Is this module compatible with non-Cisco equipment?
While it follows IEEE 100GBASE-LR4 standards for optical interoperability (it can talk to a Juniper or Arista 100G-LR4 module at the other end of the fiber), the CPAK module itself will only fit into Cisco-proprietary CPAK slots.
Q4. Does it support 4x25G breakout mode?
The LR4 standard uses WDM to multiplex four wavelengths onto a single fiber pair, meaning it is generally intended for 100G-to-100G point-to-point links and not for breaking out into 4 individual 25G connections.
Q5. Is it hot-swappable?
Yes. You can install or remove the module without powering down the line card or the chassis, allowing for easy maintenance and upgrades.
