The Juniper MX80-AC is a compact yet powerful 3D Universal Edge Router designed for high-performance routing in enterprise and service provider networks. Developed by Juniper Networks, this fixed-configuration router delivers 80 Gbps of full-duplex throughput in a space-efficient 2RU chassis, making it an ideal solution for deployments where rack space and power efficiency are critical.

Powered by the Juniper Trio ASIC architecture, the MX80-AC provides hardware-accelerated packet processing and advanced network services while maintaining consistent low latency and high reliability. The router includes four integrated 10GbE SFP+ ports for high-speed connectivity and two modular MIC slots, allowing network operators to expand the router with additional 1GbE or 10GbE interfaces based on evolving network requirements.

For service convergence and advanced networking capabilities, the router also includes a rear MS-MIC slot that supports integrated services such as NAT, IPsec encryption, and traffic monitoring. This enables organizations to deploy secure WAN edge solutions without requiring additional external appliances.

Q1. Is the MX80 a modular or fixed router?
It is a "fixed-chassis" router with modular capabilities. While the core 10GbE ports are fixed, it includes two slots for MICs to expand your port count or interface types.

Q2. What is the difference between the MX80 and the MX5, MX10, or MX40?
All four models use the same hardware chassis. The MX5, MX10, and MX40 are software-restricted versions of the MX80. You can upgrade those models to the full 80 Gbps MX80 capacity via a software license upgrade.

Q3. Does this router support 100GbE?
No. The MX80 hardware architecture is capped at 10GbE interfaces. For native 100GbE support in a compact form factor, you would need to look at the MX204 or MX150.

Q4. Are the power supplies hot-swappable?
Yes. The MX80-AC features two independent, hot-swappable AC power supply modules located at the rear of the chassis.

Q5. Can I run Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT) on this device?
