Cisco C3850-NM-4-10G Catalyst 3850 4-Port 10Gb Network Module

High-Speed Fiber Uplink Expansion for Catalyst 3850 Series Switches

The Cisco C3850-NM-4-10G is a high-performance, field-replaceable network module designed to provide flexible and scalable uplink connectivity for Cisco Catalyst 3850 Series switches. Engineered for enterprise access layer deployments, this module enables seamless aggregation of traffic to distribution and core networks while supporting both Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet speeds.

Equipped with four SFP/SFP+ uplink slots, the C3850-NM-4-10G supports any combination of 1G SFP or 10G SFP+ transceivers, delivering up to 40 Gbps aggregate throughput. This flexibility allows organizations to migrate from Gigabit to 10 Gigabit uplinks without replacing existing switch infrastructure, ensuring long-term investment protection and scalability.

Designed for operational efficiency, the module is hot-swappable and field-replaceable, enabling quick installation or upgrades without network downtime. Once installed, it integrates natively with Cisco IOS XE, allowing immediate configuration and deployment of the additional uplink interfaces.

When used in StackWise-480 configurations, uplinks can be cross-connected across stacked switches to provide link redundancy and high availability. Support for EtherChannel and LACP enables load balancing and resilient uplink connectivity, making it ideal for mission-critical enterprise networks.

Built for reliability, flexibility, and high-speed backbone connectivity, the Cisco C3850-NM-4-10G is the perfect uplink solution for organizations upgrading to high-bandwidth network infrastructure.

FAQs:

Q1. Can I use four 10G SFP+ transceivers simultaneously in this module?
Yes. Unlike some older modules, the C3850-NM-4-10G supports 10Gbps speeds on all four ports at the same time for a total of 40G of uplink bandwidth.

Q2. Is this module compatible with the Catalyst 3650 or 9300 series?
No. The C3850-NM-4-10G is mechanically and electrically designed only for the Catalyst 3850 series. The Catalyst 9300 uses a different set of "C9300-NM" modules.

Q3. Does this module support 1G copper SFP modules (GLC-T)?
Yes. You can use copper 1000BASE-T SFPs in these slots if you need to connect to a server or switch via standard RJ-45 cabling.

Q4. Do I need to power off the switch to install the module?
No. The module is hot-swappable; however, it is a best practice to save your configuration and verify that the switch recognizes the new hardware after insertion.

Q5. How are the ports labeled in the Cisco IOS command line?
Once installed, the ports typically appear as TenGigabitEthernetX/1/1 through TenGigabitEthernetX/1/4 (where X is the switch number in a stack).
