Juniper MIC6-100G-CFP2 2-Port 100GbE CFP2 MIC

High-Density 100GbE Modular Interface Card for MX2000 Series Routers

The Juniper Networks MIC6-100G-CFP2 Modular Interface Card is a high-capacity 100GbE expansion module engineered for Juniper MX2000 Series routers, including the MX2008, MX2010, and MX2020 platforms. Designed to meet the demands of modern service provider networks and large-scale data center interconnect (DCI) environments, this MIC delivers exceptional performance, scalability, and efficiency for high-bandwidth transport networks.

Featuring 2 × 100GbE CFP2 ports, the MIC6-100G-CFP2 provides up to 200 Gbps full-duplex throughput per module, enabling network operators to scale efficiently within multi-terabit routing architectures. The use of the CFP2 form factor ensures improved power efficiency and higher port density compared to legacy CFP modules, making it ideal for space-constrained, high-performance deployments.

When deployed with compatible MPCs such as MPC6E, MPC8E, and MPC9E, the module leverages the advanced Juniper Trio chipset, delivering wire-rate processing and support for sophisticated networking features. These include Hierarchical QoS (HQoS), deep packet buffering, and inline traffic monitoring with J-Flow, ensuring optimized traffic management and enhanced network visibility.

The MIC6-100G-CFP2 supports a wide range of 100GbE optics including LR4, SR10, and ER4, offering flexibility for both short- and long-distance connectivity. It also integrates seamlessly with carrier-grade networking technologies such as MPLS, L2VPN, L3VPN, and IPv4/IPv6 routing, making it suitable for core, edge, and backbone deployments.

Built for high availability, the MIC features a hot-swappable design, allowing installation or replacement without service interruption, ensuring maximum network uptime. With its combination of high-density 100G connectivity, robust feature support, and seamless integration with the Junos OS ecosystem, the Juniper MIC6-100G-CFP2 is an ideal solution for next-generation, high-capacity networking infrastructures.

FAQs:

Q1. Can this MIC be used in an MX960 or MX480?
No. The MIC6-100G-CFP2 is designed for the larger-form-factor MPCs found in the MX2000 series routers. For 100G on the MX960, you would typically use an MPC3E, MPC5E, or a standard MIC-3D-1X100GE-CFP.

Q2. Does this MIC support 40GbE?
No. The ports on this MIC are dedicated 100GbE CFP2 slots. It does not support 40GbE transceivers or breakout modes to 10GbE.

Q3. What is the difference between CFP and CFP2?
CFP2 is roughly half the size of a standard CFP module and consumes significantly less power. This allow cards like the MIC6-100G-CFP2 to fit two ports in the space where only one original CFP might have fit.

Q4. Does this MIC support MACsec?
MACsec support is dependent on the host MPC and the Junos version. While the MX2000 series supports MACsec on newer line cards, you should verify compatibility with your specific MPC6E/8E/9E base.

Q5. Is the CFP2 optic included with the MIC?
No. The MIC6-100G-CFP2 is a carrier card. 100G CFP2 transceivers (SR10, LR4, etc.) must be purchased separately based on your fiber distance requirements.
